The short form ‘m and ‘n

 

“’n” (apostrofla yazılan) kelimesi, “and” kelimesinin kısaltılmış ve resmî olmayan (yani günlük konuşma dilinde kullanılan) hâlidir.

 

Anlam:

 

“’n” kelimesi “and” = “ve” anlamına gelir.

Bu kısaltma, özellikle konuşma dilinde ya da şarkı sözlerinde, samimi veya doğal bir anlatım için kullanılır.

Dikkat:

 

• Bu kullanım, İngilizce’de “and” kelimesinin hızlı söylenişini gösterir. Konuşurken insanlar genelde “and” yerine “n” ya da “ən” gibi söyler.
• Yalnızca günlük dilde, şarkılarda, diyaloglarda veya sloganlarda kullanılır.
• Resmî yazılarda (örneğin okul ödevlerinde, mektuplarda, sınavlarda) kullanılmaz.
