Present Continuous Tense / Şimdiki Zaman

We use the present continuous tense to talk about actions happening now, at the moment of speaking, or temporary actions. Present Continuous Tense / Şimdikiz Zaman’ı, şu anda, konuşma anında veya geçici eylem durumlarındaki, fiil çekimlerinden bahsetmek için kullanırız.

It answers the question: “What is happening right now?”

Şimdiki Zaman, “Şu anda ne/neler oluyor?” sorusuna cevap arar.

 

Form (Cümle Yapısı)

Örnek cümleler:

  • I am studying English now.

Ne zaman kullanılır?

a) Actions happening now / Konuşma anında gerçekleşen fiiller:

  • I am writing a sentence.
  • He is listening to music.

b) Temporary actions (not permanent) Geçici fiiller:

  • She is living in Ankara this year.
  • I am reading an interesting book these days.

c) Actions happening around now / bu sıralar gerçekleşen fiiller:

  • They are preparing for the exam.

Olumsuz cümle:

Subject + am / is / are + not + verb + -ing

Örnekler:

  • I am not working now.
  • He is not sleeping.
  • We are not studying math today.

(Short forms: isn’t, aren’t)

 

Soru cümlesi:

Am / Is / Are + subject + verb + -ing?

Örnekler:

  • Are you studying now?
  • Is she reading a book?
  • Am I speaking too fast?

 

Sıkça kullanılan zaman kelimeleri:

A Busy Afternoon (Present Continuous Tense ile)

It is a sunny afternoon. Ali is at home with his family. His mother is cooking lunch in the kitchen. She is making soup and rice. Ali’s father is working on his computer in the living room. He is writing emails and is talking on the phone.

Ali is sitting at his desk in his room. He is doing his homework and is listening to soft music. His little sister, Elif, is playing with her toys on the floor. She is laughing and is singing a small song.

Outside, the neighbors are walking in the street. Some children are riding their bikes, and a dog is barking happily. Everyone is enjoying the nice weather. It is a normal day, but everything is happening at the same time.

 

 

 

A Busy Afternoon (Mixed Tenses / Diğer Tense’lerle)

It is a sunny afternoon. Ali usually comes home early, but today he is staying at home all day. His mother is cooking lunch in the kitchen. She usually cooks simple meals, but today she is making soup and rice.

Ali’s father works in an office, but this afternoon he is working from home. He is writing emails and is talking on the phone. Ali likes music, so he is listening to his favorite songs while he is doing his homework.

His sister Elif usually plays quietly, but now she is singing and is laughing. Outside, children ride their bikes every day, and today they are riding them happily in the street.
